Normal rats surviving a single oral dose of carbon disulphide (CS2) show liver enlargement and depression of drug-metabolizing enzymes but no liver necrosis. If the drug-metabolizing enzymes are stimulated by phenobarbitone before exposure to CS2, the LD50 does not change but liver necrosis is produced.

Antioxidant and Hepatoprotective Effects of Bauhinia racemosa Against Paracetamol and Carbon Tetrachloride Induced Liver Damage in Rats
The methanol extract of Bauhinia racemosa Lam. (Caesalpiniaceae) stem bark was investigated for the antioxidant and hepatoprotective effects in Wistar albino rats. Different groups of animals were administered with paracetamol (500 mg/kg, (p.o.) once in a day for 7 days) and carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) (30 % CCl4, 1 ml/kg b.wt. in liquid paraffin 3 doses (i.p.) at 72 h interval). The methanol e...

متن کاملProtective Effects of Hydro-alcoholic Extract of Apium Graveolens on Carbon Tetrachloride Induced Hepatotoxicity in Sprague-Dawley male Rats
Background & Objective: Apium graveolens has antioxidant property because of its flavonoid compounds. In the present study, we investigated the hepatoprotective effects of hydroalcoholic extract of Apium graveolens in Sprague Dawley male rats treated with carbon tetrachloride (CCl4). Materials & Methods: In this study, 48 rats (weighted 180-200 gram) were divided into six groups each having e...
